The remains of St George’s Church

In the available literature, which has yet to be completely researched, there is a story  in relation to the Svičuraj lagoon about the Venetian attack on Nerežišća, the capital of Brač, at the time. It is believed that that is the reason for the church of St George – protector of Brač in that location. Considering that there is not enough information about the site of St George’s church, a memo has been sent to the archdiocese of Split-Makarska. Available information from the history books say that there was a church of St George in that lagoon which, together with the church of St John, served as a benefice for the Chapter of Split. It is our belief that the church dates back to 13th or 14th century, and its foundations are still visible on the site.
